LiveJournal's geography has no boundaries
In the beginning of August SUP Fabric’s project for fans of travelling LJonMap has changed its address to maps.livejournal.com and its name to LiveJournal Maps.
LiveJournal Maps is an online travel guide created by bloggers, which offers a new way to get information from the LiveJournal blogging platform. Thanks to this service, LiveJournal users can take a virtual tour of Burj Khalifa - the world's tallest building, visit Ushuaia - the southernmost city, as well as discovering something interesting about the places that they don't have the opportunity or time to go to.
The interactive maps display information about the most unusual places of the planet, pieces of architectural, UNESCO sites and anthropogenic phenomena. Any LiveJournal user can contribute to the project by sending us links to interesting LJ posts, which will find their way onto the map after moderator's approval. Users can add points of interest to their favorites and plan their further holiday according to them.
The beta version of the project was launched on the 16th April 2010 and the service left the beta phase at the end of May. The change of domain was necessary to increase the speed and effectiveness of the site, as well to comply with the technical specifications and LiveJournal’s marketing strategy.
In the near future, users will be able to chart travel and expedition routes and create their own unique maps.
